Core Dump
Check the system defaults for core dump sizes, user resource limits, the password aging stuff mentioned before.
On an multiuser system without resource limits local DOS attacks can be a problem.
In UNIX, check the ulimit command.
In Solaris, some kernel configuration paramaters are necessary to implement some system wide limits.
In Linux, also check out the PAM limits module, configuration file /etc/limits.conf
Here are the default ulimits on my Mandrake workstation, (ulimit -a):
