Backup and Disaster Recovery
A good backup is the last line of defense. Malicious attackers can fubar your server, but if you have a reliable and tested backup solution you can recover.
Linux and AIX backup advantage:
emergency
boot from small media
automatable disk partition and format
utilities
full system restore from emergency boot
environment
Linux emergency environment is customizable
Solaris, Irix problems:
no
easy restore from emergency boot environment
geared to a reinstall
followed by restore from backup media
On UNIX the only commercial backup software I have seen work reliably is BRU.
BRU is fast, small, reliable, cross platform, AIX, IRIX, Linux.
